Brooklyn Bound

Nothing makes me happier then when I get a chance to go back to my old neighborhood and shop at a few of my favorite stores. Some may think this might include clothing, but with me it’s all about the food!!  I was very lucky to grow up in a neighborhood that not only taught me valuable life lessons, but also let me experience many yummy treats. My trips there are few and usually quick, so I am just going to share with you my three must go to places. To make the day even better my fun girlie friends Lynn & Bonnie came along for the ride.

First Stop :

Villabate Alba Bakery

This bakery is such a special place with some of the best baked goods you will ever taste.  This was the bakery that my family would go to for special occasions.

photo 2-7

It is full of yummy cookies, gelato, pastries, breads and some of the most beautifully decorated delicious cakes.

photo 3-5

This is my favorite cake.  It has mocha frosting and is adorned with chocolate covered cream puffs and chocolate covered strawberries. The inside is so delicious with fresh-cut bananas and walnuts. You knew it was an important birthday, when this baby came out. 😉

I could spend the whole day in this bakery because it is so pretty and the smell in there is the best!!!

But we have two more places to visit and kids to get home to, so we purchased our goodies and got on our way.

Pisa

I love this store and grew up going to it. My family provided me with a list of what they wanted which included Pisa’s fresh mozzarella, soppressata, pepperoni and marinated mushrooms.

Lynny’s a big fan as well!! :)

We had our treats sliced and packed to go and headed off to our last stop before heading home.

Last, but not least :

L&B Spumoni Garden

I grew up two blocks from L&B and would eat lunch here almost everyday throughout High School.

photo 3-4

This place is definitely a favorite of everyone and we were ready to eat.

photo 4-3

So, we ordered up lunch and a 1/2 of Sicilian to go and headed out into the sunshine to eat.

It really is a unique piece of pizza.

photo 2-4

and it brings me back to my childhood with every bite that I take.

photo-14

We filled ourselves up, but there was no way we could go home without a big scooping of spumoni. It is a mixture of pistachio, vanilla, chocolate, nut filled yumminess and a must have for me when I visit.

I truly do love my home town and will always be proud to be from

Brooklyn ♥

Definitely check it out if you get the chance :)

Thriving With Passion

And Compassion

And Generosity And Kindness “

The 1st to Leave the Nest.

Not quite sure how I got here, but last week we packed up our first born and headed off to college.  My son Sean is a true pleasure in my life. He always knows how to make me laugh with his witty comments and is great at giving a hug when you need it the most.  Don’t get me wrong he’s a teenager and can try my patience with the best of them, but I truly love him to bits.

photo-13

Even though, we had looked at a bunch of colleges, waited eagerly for acceptance letters, made the decision and shopped for everything he needed. I just couldn’t believe that we were bringing him to live in another state without me.

Found this picture and I think it best explained how I was feeling. So many questions and worries were going through my head. What if he gets sick? What if he gets hurt? Will he remember to take his vitamins? Will he make healthy choices? Who will wake him up? Will he ever do laundry? I hope he makes friends!! The list goes on and on.

photo 3-2

Anyway, we arrived at his university and immediately went into move- in mode and I tried my best to put all my crazy mommy worries aside.

photo 5-2

I don’t know what came over me, but at soon as we entered his room I needed it to be all set up and just perfect for him. Not everyone felt the same way, which led to a few tense moments 😉 But all was good.

photo 1-2

I know it will never look like this again.

photo 2-2

But I was very thankful that he let me put it all together, so that when I left him I would feel that he was all set up.  We then met his roommate and actually after they unpacked, we all went out to lunch which I thought  was such a great way to get their relationship started . When we got back we could tell that he was getting kind of antsy, so we knew it would soon be time to leave.

photo 3

I still had some mommy duties that I needed to fulfill, so we headed off to the post office to set up his mailbox and to the bookstore to find the books he needed for class.

It was now time to say good-bye. :(

photo 4

He walked us to the parking garage to say our goodbyes. We gave hugs and kisses and told him to remember to text and call us.  I just stood there as he walked back to his dorm room and couldn’t believe how many different feelings were going through me at the same time. I was so proud and happy for him, but yet I wanted to pack him all up and drive him right back home.

photo 5When we finally got home I was so exhausted from all the jumbled up feelings I felt all day, but when I found this on my pillow it made it all worth it!!!

Love You Seanie!!

Happy Anniversary!!

Last week I celebrated being married to my best friend for 21 years. The day was so crazy with my older guy heading to his prom

photo 1and my little guy sick with a terrible stomach virus.

photo 2

I was exhausted, but my marriage is something I am very proud of and I feel it is important that we celebrate it every year no matter what. My fantastic daughter and her great friend took care of the baby, so my husband and I could go and enjoy a great dinner out.

FullSizeRender-12

The meal was delicious, but the best thing that happened that night is that we sat and talked about all the things we loved about each other and our marriage.  I’m not going to sit here and tell you that my marriage is perfect because it is not, but we adore each other and the family we have created.  We work very hard to keep it strong.  That conversation got me thinking about sharing with you the things that we have learned over our 21 years together that have made our marriage what it is today.

So here it goes

Respect – Love is great, but respect for each other is mandatory!! You have to never want to do anything that would embarrass your partner or yourself.

Communication – If you are upset about something SAY IT!!! If you need something you are not getting SAY IT!! If you are not getting the help you need SAY IT!!  Too many times I hear people complaining about their spouses and I always ask, ” Did you talk to them about it ? ” 90% of the time the answer is no because they feel it will get them no where. Which leads me to.

Validation – Everyone wants to be heard and validated. When someone tells you how they feel, always listen and don’t judge. You don’t have to agree, but you owe it to your partner to hear them out and work on trying to make it work for the two of you.

100% / 100% – I always hear people say that a marriage is 50/50. My husband and I will both tell you that in order for  your marriage to be happy and healthy, you both always have to give 100/100.

Honey Do-List – Early on in our marriage, we would get into a lot of arguments about my nagging and his inability to remember things I asked him to get done. The solution we came up was called a honey do-list. I would make a list of the things I needed him to do, but once it was on the list I couldn’t ask about it again and he would promise to always try and get everything done on that list as soon as reasonable possible for him. 20 years later and  we are still doing this.

Quality Time – I can not even express how important it is to make time to be alone together.  Believe me, I totally know how crazy life can get 😉 But just as you make the time for your kids and jobs, you have to make sure to always pencil in time for your partner. It doesn’t have to be fancy, but it just has to happen once in a while.

Always have each others back – You are a team and no matter if you agree or disagree about what the other is doing, you are to always back them up to everyone outside of your marriage. There were many times I didn’t agree with how my husband handled something, but I always stood by his side. Then when we were in private I would tell him what I think about the situation and how he could have handled it differently. We definitely listen better to each other knowing we have our best interest at heart, but no matter what we have each others back. This definitely rains true with raising your kids. Always stand together as a united front.

Remember to: Just Roll With It – You just can never predict what life is going to throw your way. Just when it seems you are heading in one direction, something crazy happens and takes you in a completely different path.  This is when it’s so important to take a deep breath, grab each others hand and roll with it  TOGETHER.

Marriage is hard work but when you find the right partner it is so worth it :)

Much Needed Vacation

Last week my family took a wonderful vacation to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic. We stayed at the Dreams Palm Beach Resort and had the most amazing time.

FullSizeRender-6

The resort was beautiful and the weather was perfect!!!

IMG_2833The view from our room was to die for. We couldn’t wait to check everything out , so we slipped on our suits and headed to the pool.

All the pools were so pretty. We even found this perfect swim area for the baby, so he didn’t have to constantly be in the sun.

IMG_2847

These circles around the sun happened the second day we were there.

The older two had fun exploring the grounds and taking some fun pictures.  Mommy, Daddy and baby enjoyed some cold drinks and down time by the pool.

FullSizeRender-5The food was endless and there was so much to choose from.

The baby loved having his vegetable cerviche poolside. :)

We ate at every restaurant, grill and buffet, but our favorite was the hibachi restaurant. Everyone was so nice and the baby loved the show.

We didn’t get to take a vacation last year with me being very prego, so I was really happy that we went and made some special memories that I will cherish always.
